Stupid Memorial
by PanzerZauberei inwell, i am gonna have to go again because my wife wants to go this year.
she missed last year because she was sick and was so depressed about it for a month after because of the guilt her stupid family laid upon my poor darling.
last night she was visiting her dad (the only one who didn't guilt her) and he asked if she was going to go this year.

Unlucky :(
I haven't been to the memorial since 2006, and i don't even intend to go again. I always thought it was stupid, passing wine & bread around & not being allowed to drink or eat it.

A belief in an afterlife is the most dangerous of all beliefs
by Awakened at Gilead inthis is an essay i am posting on freeminds... i'm posting it here too for good measure.... it is well known that the 9-11 attackers had a belief in an afterlife.
as the story goes, apparently they believed that after they would die gloriously, having killed thousands of american infidels, they would be taken into paradise and would enjoy the company of 72 virgins.. .
i think it is quite easy to see the connection between the belief in such an afterlife and the nefarious deeds that these men committed.

I'm beginning to reject the idea that Jesus even existed, let alone the idea that he should be my mediator on judgement day. Anyone who has looked into the REAL history of the bible (not the history that the bible itself promotes) will know that the idea of judgement day is ludicrous and childish.
Being an atheist doesn't require commitment to any idea, it simply is a lack of belief in God, not a rejection of all otherworldy intelligence theories.
And even if there is a creator who designed this universe, there is no way to prove it & it's pretty obvious that this creator isn't the biblical one, since he is a self-contradictory being (if you compare opposite ends of the bible).
Anyway, good thread, i don't believe in an afterlife, but i do think that with the way technology is advancing these days, it isn't unreasonable to believe that those of us alive today (especially those of us under the age of 50) will live long enough to have the opportunity (thanks to future technological and medical advances) to live a very very long time, though probably not forever.

Did Noah even exist?
by LouBelle ini'm shamelessly jumping on the noah bandwagon - or ark - whatever.
considering how many view the bible (basic information before leaving earth....tm) do you think that there was a real noah?
my answer: i don't..

I can't believe i ever accepted the flood story as fact, even though i haven't believed it since i was about 18, it still troubles me to think i was ever taken in by it.

My personal opinion is that 95% of what is written (in terms of the historical narrative & genealogy elements) in both the OT & the NT, as well as the Apocrypha, is completely made up & probably not even remotely based on reality. The other 5% is either monumental embelishment (sometimes after generations of oral tradition) of actual events, or myths & legends loosely based on something which may or may not have happened thousands of years previously.
The rest of the Bible is just a mixture of the five P's: poems, psalms, proverbs, parables & prophecy (some of which was inspired by common psychedelics of the era most likely).

I'm an ex-dub in Dorset, England, which isn't a very good place to be an ex-dub
by Psychotic Parrot inmost people here in the poole/bournemouth area of dorset (and i know i'm generalising) are not very... well, inquiring minds seem to be an aquired taste around these parts.
i mean, there are lots of intelligent people, but they tend to be the ones who steer clear of 'the troof'.
those who are in 'the troof' around here don't tend to have the neccessary brain capacity required to realise they are in a cult & thus they don't leave in great numbers, & those who do leave tend to do so for shallow reasons (they want sex) as opposed to my reason for leaving (i realised it's all a bag of shite).

Thanks for the advice people :)
In answer to the questions:
I left in 2006 (around the time of the Kingdom Ministry stating that we had to update a less than 20 year old book of prophecy because it was already embarrassingly out of date), i was 18 years old at the time, and both of my parents (& just about everyone else in my family) is still in. I am considered by the rest of my family to be a prideful young man who needs to wake up to reality, i can understand them thinking that, but they are nevertheless utterly wrong. I was never baptised but did become an unbaptised publisher a few months before i stopped going to the meetings, although ironically i stopped publishing within a month of becoming an unbaptised publisher. The last time i seriously considered going to the kingdom hall was the evening of the 2007 memorial, but i decided not to at the last minute.
I just wish at least someone else in my immediate family would see the light, perhaps then i wouldn't feel so alone :(

Well, i guess there was the sex issue also, but yeah anyway...
I feel a bit isolated at the moment, everyone that i know is either a dub, is involved with some other religion (i have no interest in religion anymore) or has never been involved with religion at all. The only ex-dubs in my area are 2 of my cousins & i don't get along with them that much, and they only left for the above stated shallow reason, they'll probably go back when they're older.
Does anyone else have this same problem? How do you deal with it? I guess my best bet is just associate with those who have never been involved with religion, they're the people i get on with the most, still it would be nice to have some friends who are actually in the same boat as me. My mum (she's a dub) asked me what my ideal girl would be the other day, and i replied with "another ex-dub", which is pretty much the truth, although i did say it mainly to spite her.
Are there any other ex-dubs on this site who live in Dorset?

It's so infuriating isn't it. These people actually believe that they are the centre of some great conspiracy. My dad uses the reasoning that 'some scientists are deceitful people who don't want to admit accountability to God' to disregard evolution. I mean, fair enough if you don't want to believe evolution, but at least analyse it for what it is, not just the credentials of 'some' of those who support it. His reasoning on the U.N is just plain stupid though, it hurts me to think about it.
